Our Story

NAVAD BAKERS officially launched on April 26, 2020, but in all actuality, it began as a seed planted in a baker's head in Tel Aviv over a decade ago. . .

Head baker and owner, Guy traveled the world baking, learning, and experiencing, and he eventually landed in Providence, RI by way of Johnson and Wales University.

Guy started out at the Charlotte campus of JWU and ended up transferring to Providence, RI. Guy began questioning himself... why on earth would he leave the climate of Israel for the arctic tundra of Rhode Island. He had no way of knowing that soon enough, everyone would be glad that he did.

Two years later, Guy had completed his degree and continued to wonder if he would ever be warm again?? But that’s enough about the weather, let’s get to the baking!

Fast forward to the global pandemic known as coronavirus, which altered all our lives in March of 2020.  Guy was baking like a fiend at home, honing his craft and refueling his inner passion and true love of baking.  With more delicious baked breads and treats than he knew what to do with, he decided to offer it to the community.

People were very interested, and within 2 weeks it was clear that a bigger kitchen was needed. That is how NAVAD Bakers was born.

Since then, we’ve grown further to need more production space and landed in East Providence. Still without a storefront, NAVAD is growing into all the right places. Sprouting out into the community with farmer's markets, catering and extending branches out to new team members and new collaborations. With a team of 18 inventive individuals, who knows where the future will bring us? Besides the kitchen- we know we’ll be there!

In March of 2023 we started our partnership with Whole Foods Market, which prompted us to rebrand. BUNS Bakery is now known as NAVAD Bakers, which means ‘Nomad’ in Hebrew. We are still the same team behind the product with a name that we feel better represents us and our mission.

These days we are popping up everywhere, but we will never overlook where we came from, the tiny kitchen at home, to this amazing small business has happened because of your support and we won’t forget it.

The community around NAVAD Bakers is truly an inspiration. It is a pleasure to reach the Jewish community in RI and just as joyful to meet our other supporters who just love artisan crafted baked delicacies. RI is a special place and good food is the universal language spoken in this little state.

It seems as if that little seed planted so long ago in the Middle East has started growing roots in RI.  As the seasons change and push ahead so too will the deciduous tree that is NAVAD Bakers.

Thank you for your support from the bottom of our hearts! We love baking for you!
